Your Car Has Three to Five Filters That Need Regular Changing

Righteous Auto Care • February 1, 2022

You might think that every car, truck, and utility vehicle on the road has the same number of filters, but they don’t. Some vehicles do not come equipped with cabin air and/or transmission filters. Righteous Auto Care advises that you can determine how many filters your vehicle has by checking the filter changing schedule in your owner’s manual. We are going to talk about the five common vehicle filters below and the general recommendations for their care and replacement.

1. Air

Your car, truck, or C/SUV definitely has an air filter in the engine. This filter does what its name suggests: It cleans the air that flows into the engine to free it of contaminants before it is used in the combustion chamber. Air filter maintenance is simple; just make sure to change the filter every 12,000 miles.

2. Cabin

The cabin filter is an air filter for your vehicle’s passenger cabin. Not all automobiles are equipped with a cabin filter. This filter needs to be changed every 30,000 miles to make certain it keeps the air inside your vehicle clean. A dirty cabin filter can make you feel ill every time you drive your automobile.

3. Fuel

You will find a fuel filter in every automobile. Diesel fuel or gasoline runs through this filter twice to remove sediment and dirt. The fuel filter can last 30,000 miles before it needs to be changed. Keeping a clean fuel filter in your automobile ensures top engine performance and fuel efficiency.

4. Oil

You will also find an oil filter in every automobile. The oil filter is changed at each oil change to make sure it’s always ready to remove the grime that the oil picks up from the engine. It’s crucial that only clean motor oil circulates through your engine; dirty motor oil can damage the engine beyond repair.

5. Transmission

Finally, if your vehicle is equipped with a transmission filter, it needs to be changed every 30,000 miles. Just like the oil filter, the transmission filter cleans the transmission fluid so it doesn’t damage the transmission. Not every vehicle on the road has a transmission filter, so check your owner’s manual.
